낭만의 세계 : Fluid Realms: Studio Noké Solo Exhibition
There is a moment at the edge of Day and Night. Light seems to move differently. Time slows down, and the space around us becomes a place for imagination. Fluid Realms wants to capture this state between waking and dreaming, between dusk and dawn.
Studio Noké is a Netherlands-based design duo formed by Moon Seop Seo and Katharina Sook Wilting. Their practice explores our relationship with nature through spatial installations that engage with light, movement, reflection, and physical phenomena. Rather than representing nature, they look for ways to create situations in which we can experience its qualities directly — to slow down, observe, and become aware of our own position within a space.
The works in Fluid Realms come from this interest in wondrous, poetic and elemental experiences: Shape of Water looks at the changing patterns created when light encounters water. The movement of the water transforms light into something constantly changing and capturing. Originally created as a water shrine, the work asks us to consider water not only as a resource, but as something with its own presence and poetry. In Drifting Clouds, movement becomes a way of looking. Inspired by the physics of waves and the Shive Wave Machine, the kinetic sculptures move through space with a slow, continuous rhythm. Their surfaces reflect their surroundings, making the work change according to where we stand. Like watching clouds or water, the movement can be followed without needing to arrive anywhere. Passage to the Lake begins with another experience: the feeling of standing beside water and becoming still. The project brings this sensation into the city through the rhythm of falling water droplets, creating a small interruption in the pace of everyday life. Here, water becomes a measure of time — a repetitive movement that allows the mind to wander.
Together, the works create an environment in which perception can become slower and more attentive. Light is never completely still. Reflections shift. Forms move. The viewer moves with them. The boundary between the work and its surroundings becomes less defined. The exhibition draws on the idea of a romantic world, not romance as sentiment, but as a way of looking: with openness, curiosity, and the possibility that something ordinary might become extraordinary. Dawn and dusk are thresholds in this sense. They are moments when the world is neither fully one thing nor another.
Fluid Realms asks us to remain in this in-between state for a while. To sit. To look. To let the mind wander. A moment just before sleep, or just after waking, when reality becomes slightly fluid and there is still room to dream.
